The private company operating the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system finds itself again in a familiar predicament. Frustrated by the non-payment of dues, the company has issued a strong warning that it may be forced to shut down the service. This results from prolonged delays in receiving the necessary funds from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Communications.

In a letter addressed to the transport secretary of Peshawar BRT, the company expressed its deep concern over the situation. Despite repeatedly highlighting the issue, the company has not received payment for its services. The letter emphasized that an outstanding amount of Rs. 603 million is due, covering the months of May and June. The failure to release these funds is a clear violation of the contractual agreement between the company and the government.

The consequences of the delayed payments have started to take a toll on the company’s operations. With limited financial resources, the company is struggling to meet its obligations, including paying salaries to its employees and even refueling the BRT fleet. The situation has become untenable, leaving the company with no choice but to issue an ultimatum.

In an attempt to resolve the matter, the letter issued a stern warning to the authorities. It demanded the release of the outstanding dues within 10 days. Failure to meet this deadline would result in the company suspending the BRT service, causing significant inconvenience to thousands of commuters who rely on it for their daily transportation needs.

History Of Peshawar BRT

This is not the first time the company has been pushed to the brink. During the current government’s tenure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the company has already issued a similar threat once before. The recurring nature of this issue highlights the urgent need for a sustainable solution that ensures timely payments and the smooth functioning of the BRT system.
