Following Lahore, Karachi police seek approval to increase traffic violation fines. DIG Traffic Karachi, Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, stated that the department had requested the Sindh government to increase traffic fines to avert traffic offenses. He hopes the incumbent government will approve the request.

Karachi Police is already taking strict measures to implement laws and regulations, he added.

Wrong Parking Fine Increased By 900% In Lahore

To tackle the issue of wrong parking, Lahore City Traffic Police have increased the fine by 900%. According to a notification, the police will now impose a fine of Rs. 2,000 compared to the previous Rs. 200.

According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Muntazir Mehdi, Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the police to impose this fine. “We will run a detailed awareness campaign through electronic and print media to educate citizens about this for the nexta three days,” Mehdi said, adding that the fines will be imposed from Monday (October 10, 2022).

Issues Due to Wrong Parking

CTO has also ordered the police to take action against illegal parking stands in the city. “Wrong parking and illegal parking stands have become a primary reason for traffic jams in Lahore, which is a serious issue for the masses,” Mehdi stated.

“Police will ensure smooth traffic through stern action,” CTO asserted.

This is a good step by the traffic police because wrong parking causes delays and traffic jams, which is not only an issue for people but also causes air pollution. Furthermore, illegal parking stands charge high fee from the people without any proper authority and provide security to the vehicle.

If the police successfully resolve this issue, it will play a huge role in ensuring smooth traffic on roads along with less chances of accidents. Also, it is the responsibility of the people to avoid parking their vehicles on main roads or areas with high traffic, even if it is for a few minutes.
