Winter is coming, folks. And you know what that means: SMOG! It’s mid-November, and you can’t see anything on the road except a thick layer of smog after five o’clock in Lahore. Amid this wave of air pollution, the Punjab government has decided to ban Euro-2 fuel in the city from December

Punjab Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht chaired a meeting with the anti-smog committee at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) head office on Tuesday and directed the Lahore division commissioner to ensure supply of only high-quality fuel in the city.

Air Quality of Lahore

The atmosphere in Lahore has been ‘very unhealthy’ for the past few days, and it will continue to get worse in the coming months. Environmental experts have warned that PM2.5 concentration in Lahore air is currently 30.8 times above the WHO annual air quality guideline value, which is very harmful for humans and animals alike.

Punjab Govt’s Action Plan

To fight the air pollution in Lahore, the Punjab government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that all Euro-2 fuel producers and suppliers upgrade to new technology. Here’s the course of action Punjab Finance Minister Bakht shared with the officials.

  • Closure of factories running without scrubbers
  • Closure of obsolete brick kilns
  • Strict action against industrial units burning tyre, rubber, and plastic
  • Strict action against the burning of crop residue and garbage
  • Seizure of vehicles causing environmental pollution in the city
  • Installation of smoke controlling devices on all vehicles

Concluding the session, the minister asked the provincial transport department, environment department, police department, and everyone else for their cooperation. He also appealed to the citizens to limit the use of their vehicles voluntarily and use public transport.

These are tough times for all of us in Lahore. Please wear facemask and glasses in open spaces and avoid unnecessary visits in smog. Stay safe, everyone!

Look at those pig heads on bikes, not even lights are on. I think traffic police should beat them for being a idiot and cause of harm to other people.

@Mr. Waqas, not to mention its use would save individual travelling cost and fuel import bill as well. Euro 5 gives a higher number of kilometers per liter.

@Khurram Good fuel with good lubricant oil is a good combination, but please don’t insult, people who aren’t using lights, it is true they must use at least crossing lights and fog lights if they have it.
They are endangering themselves as well others.

@Waqas I agree that I must not name anyone, however, my suffering at the hands of such bike riders sometimes make me red hot.
Do you know that in Pakistan if you are in a car and if due to bike rider’s mistake you hit him, they pretend to be hurt a lot and plead for their poverty and hope that rider in car would forgive them. However, if a car driver makes mistake, then the car driver must not only pay for bike’s damage but take the man to the hospital. I think that this system is unfair because it is leading poor person to believe that they can act as they want and people richer than them are must by virtues of religion pay for their mistakes. This thought is completely against what is clearly written in Quran and ahadees.

@Khurram Thanks bro i wasn’t aware of that in Pakistan, i already drive in Pakistan and i also try to get a driving licence but i wasn’t staying long enough in Pakistan to pass the exam. Anyway they are a lot of rush driving, no indicator are use when turning, undertaking or park,
Even in a roundabout people are just turning the way they feel, and God know how many people are driving in Pakistan without driving licence and any proper drive lesson. I was a little in shock when i was discovered the reality in Pakistan.

@Waqas, you are most welcome, people coming around round about is just a tithe of the iceberg, even on main arteries of countries, including highways, people come the wrong way at nigh with lights off. In broad day light its now considered a norm. It really is an anxious task to save your car from getting damaged in Pakistan nowadays.
