In this first drive review, Mustafa Qazi takes us behind the wheel of the all-new Inverex EV, a locally launched electric hatchback that has recently entered the Pakistani market. Known primarily for solar energy solutions, Inverex has now stepped into the mobility sector, offering a promising EV lineup aimed at urban commuters.

About Inverex and the EV Launch

Inverex is a well-established name in Pakistan’s solar industry, having operated for over 20 years. Expanding its footprint into mobility, the company has introduced the Inverex Xio EV in three variants, aimed at different consumer needs.

Available Variants:

  • 140 km range variant – PKR 3,499,000

  • 220 km range variant – PKR 4,199,000

  • 320 km range variant (test-driven) – PKR 5,199,000

Battery and Powertrain Technology

The Inverex EV 320 comes equipped with a Magnesium-Cobalt battery, offering improved energy density and faster charging compared to standard lithium-ion batteries.

Key Battery & Performance Details:

  • Battery Capacity: 31.28 kWh

  • Motor Output: 18 kW (equivalent to approx. 235 hp)

  • Torque: 105 Nm

  • Range: Up to 320 km on a full charge

  • Charging Time: Faster than conventional lithium-ion setups

This battery ensures improved energy storage, contributing to more consistent performance and increased range.

Driving Experience & Performance

  • Driven with 4 passengers, the car showed no lag or sluggishness.

  • Instant pickup is evident, typical of EVs, with responsive throttle control.

  • Even under load, the vehicle accelerates quickly and maintains power delivery effectively.

Drive Modes and Acceleration

The Inverex EV offers two main driving modes:

  • Normal Mode – No speed restrictions; smooth, linear acceleration.

  • Sports Mode – Engaged via gear lever; delivers sharper throttle and reaches 80 km/h within 3–4 seconds.

Acceleration is impressive, and the car is very capable during urban overtaking manoeuvres.

Handling and Stability

Despite being a compact hatchback, the EV performs well in terms of stability:

  • Stable at 70–80 km/h

  • No noticeable body roll or instability

  • Easy to manoeuvre through city traffic due to compact size

  • Suspension Setup:

    • Front: MacPherson struts

    • Rear: Torsion beam

    • Tuned for a soft, comfortable ride

Ground Clearance

With four passengers onboard, the car handled Karachi’s speed breakers without any scraping. This makes it very suitable for urban roads and surprisingly capable for a hatchback.

Cabin Experience and Interior Layout

The interior is thoughtfully designed for visibility, comfort, and usability.

  • Large windscreen and narrow A-pillars reduce blind spots

  • Rearview camera offers a clear and complete rear perspective

  • Noise isolation is decent, even during peak traffic

    • Ambient temperature: 38–39°C

    • AC performance: Decent cooling for all 4 passengers

Interior Design and Infotainment

The interior is utility-focused, with all controls easily accessible.

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen

  • Shows battery %, remaining range, and other vital info

  • Android Auto compatible

  • Bluetooth connectivity supported

Instrument Cluster

  • Partially digital

  • Central Multi-Information Display (MID) shows:

    • Speed

    • Battery consumption

    • Odometer

    • Estimated range

Cabin Storage and Practicality

  • Central storage for phone/wallet

  • Additional compartments above the climate controls and on the dashboard

  • Traditional glove box

  • Door pockets for water bottles and small items

  • Overall, ample and smart storage integration

Audio System

A welcome surprise is the factory-installed 4-speaker setup, which is better than the 2-speaker systems offered by many local hatchbacks.

  • Sound quality: Very good for the segment

  • Rear speakers are installed, not just wired, which is uncommon in this price range

Safety Features

Equipped With:

  • Driver airbag (no passenger airbag)

Final Verdict

The Inverex EV 320 is a solid and promising contender in the growing Pakistani EV market.
