Car Sales Slash by 66% Last Month
After the months-long crisis, uncertainty still pervades the country’s auto industry. The car sector in Pakistan stands at a critical juncture. And it is clear that economic stability will still be a long time coming – will undoubtedly continue to cast a pall over Pakistan’s already vulnerable car industry.
As per the latest report from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), there was a 10% month-on-month (MoM) decline in car sales last month, with 5,816 vehicles sold, as opposed to the 6,475 units sold in November 2023.
Comparing year-to-year (YoY) data, a significant 66% drop is observed, as car manufacturers managed to sell only 17,012 cars during the corresponding period last year.
Two Wheelers
Similarly, two-wheeler sales experienced a significant decrease of 7% last month, selling 82,362 units in Dec’23 against 88,493 units in November 2023.
Notably, Japanese motorcycle manufacturer ‘Atlas Honda’ sales dropped by 5%, reaching out 72,096 units last month compared to 76,043 bikes in Nov’23. Conversely, Pak Suzuki’s sales increased by 33% in sales, with 1,363 units sold last month compared to 1,028 in November 2023.
Trucks & Buses
Report reveals that Truck and buses sales reduced by 29% month-on-month (MoM), selling 74 trucks in last month as opposed to 128 in November 2023. Meanwhile, 31 buses were sold last month against 19 in Nov’23.
Company-Wise Sales Breakdown (MoM)
Toyota Pakistan sales jacked up by 28%, selling 684 units last month compared to 956 vehicles in November 2023. (MoM Decline: -28%)
Surprisingly, Pak Suzuki Motors Company’s sales surged 7%, selling vehicles over 3,735 last month against 3,506 cars in Nov’23. Meanwhile, the company observed 55% drop in terms of year-on-year sales. (MoM growth: 7%)
Hyundai Nishat sales observed a considerable downtrend of 43%, selling 304 units last month compared to 532 units in November 2023. (MoM decline: -43%)
It is related to mention that all other car companies, Kia Lucky Motors, Master Changan Motors, Regal Motors, MG Motors, and Al-Haj Proton, are not PAMA members. Their sales numbers are not included in the report.
Car-Wise Sales Breakdown
Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company sold 2,099 units of Alto, 297 units of Suzuki Cultus, 409 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 378 units of Suzuki Swift, 326 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 226 units of Suzuki Ravi.
Toyota Indus sold 554 units of Corolla and Yaris and 130 units of Fortuner and Hilux.
Honda Atlas sold 787 units of City and Civic and 114 units of BR-V.
Hyundai Nishat sold 39 units of Elantra, 27 units of Sonata, 137 units of Porter, and 101 units of Tucson.
