PAMA Report – 22,893 Cars Sold in May
Cars are becoming more and more expensive in Pakistan but the demand is still there. Car sales are coming strong despite the sky high prices. After an 18% decline in April, the sales figures are back on track with 2% growth in May.
The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) has posted the monthly car sales for May 2022. As per the PAMA report, the auto industry sold a total of 22,893 cars in May. Compared to the 22,370 sales of April, there is a month-on-month growth of 2%.
Company-Wise Sales Breakdown
Toyota Indus had a slight increase in sales of Corolla and Yaris and a slight decrease in sales of Fortuner and Revo, with a total of 5,882 units sold in May. (MoM growth: 2%)
Honda Atlas car sales also went uphill from 2,629 units in April to 2,910 units in May. (MoM growth: 11%)
Hyundai Nishat had the biggest sales leap with 1,710 cars sold in May. (MoM decline: 1%)
Pak Suzuki’s new Swift couldn’t save the company’s sales from dropping to 12,212 in May. (MoM decline: 3%)
All other car companies, Kia Lucky Motors, Master Changan Motors, Regal Motors, MG Motors, and Al-Haj Proton, are not PAMA members. Their sales numbers are not included in the report.
Car-Wise Sales Breakdown
Suzuki sold 5,461 units of Alto, 1,270 units of Suzuki Cultus, 2,258 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 1,744 units of Suzuki Swift, 723 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 756 units of Suzuki Ravi.
Toyota Indus sold 4,263 units of Corolla and Yaris and 1,619 units of Fortuner and Hilux.
Honda Atlas sold 2,681 units of Civic and City and 229 units of BR-V.
Hyundai Nishat sold 594 units of Elantra, 400 units of Sonata, 77 units of Porter, and 639 units of Tucson.

Is this a decline? Is it a sales leap? Because in the table you have shown that Hyundai did have good sales.

Isn’t PAMA a cartel? If a company does not have it’s blessing it will not even have it’s sales registered. Why? Its name is Pak. Auto manufacturing and assemblers. Which ones are manufactures because last I heard they were still crying like babies because the imports got tough rules. Is the company who’s head is also the head of PAMA, a true local manufacture or do they just love to gaslight? Please be honest. Didn’t he go back crying to daddy. I.e. (as usual) brought in political muscle in the form of the Jap ambassador to sort things. Is that fair? Is PAMA’s goal what’s best for Pakistan (as it should be) or is it what’s best for these companies?

Sales dropped by 18% in April. The sales improved month over month by 2% in May. If we are comparing the two months that still means the sales are way down. 18% drop and only 2% uptick. That leaves around 16 or 17 % to go… right?
