Changan Karvaan 1.2L

The company introduced this 1.2L or 1200cc variant back in March 2024. We did a first-look review discussing the upgrades in it, and here is a recap of that review:

Launched to compete with the oldie goldie Suzuki Bolan, this Karvaan gives you an upgraded feel that is more than a sluggish, noisy compartment on wheels.

Engine and Performance

Changan Karvaan was previously launched in a 1L variant, capable of producing 68HP, while the new one features a 1.2L engine capable of producing 79HP, mated with a 5-speed transmission. The Chinese automaker claims a 42% improved road handling, pick, and efficient fuel economy from this mid-sized van.

Exterior

Having the same front look as the previous generation, this Karvaan offers manually adjustable projector headlamps, two front grilles, fog lamps, and non-retractable mirrors. Moving on to the rear, it comes with a high-mounted brake light and a decent curve to uphold the look of a van. It also has 14-inch wheels and car badging at multiple places to tell the gazers from where it belonged.

Interior

Sliding into the 7-seater space, it looks much more comfortable than its competitors. Featuring a beige combination with decent legroom and headroom, this van offers minimal vibration and cabin noise from the engine and the surroundings.

It also offers a standard speedometer, radio, MP3, AUX, USB, dual-air conditioning, four cup holders, reclining seats, front power windows, and storage space in the dash. Moreover, its trunk offers a decent space accompanied by a keyless entry.

Changan Sherpa – Specs & Features

Similarly, in September 2024, the company also introduced a new variant of Changan Sherpa, with upgrades including:

  • 1200cc engine replacing the old 1,000cc
  • 5-speed transmission
  • Power steering

Meanwhile, here are the salient specs and features of this loader:

  • The vehicle’s overall length is 4560mm, with a width of 1645 mm and a height of 1890 mm, along with a wheelbase of 2900 mm.
  • It has a 3-point safety belt and steering lock as safety features.
  • The M9’s tyre size is 175/70R, and the rim size is 14 inches. Meanwhile, the fuel tank capacity is 40 liters.
  • The vehicle has disc/drum brakes at the front and rear and a vacuum booster. Moreover, the front suspension is Macpherson independent, and the rear suspension is Leaf spring dependent.
  • The cargo box’s length is 2750mm, its width is 1520mm, and its height is 370mm.
  • The M9’s main features are a speaker, cupholder, driver and front passenger sun visor, Radio/AUX/Clock, body-colored side-view mirrors, and optional fog lamps.

Minimal cabin noise? What are you talking about author, the box on wheels isn’t that quiet. It is better than Bolan because of AC maybe, but minimal is an overstatement. Afterall, the engine is located underneath seat and is bound to make noise, so unless you are suggesting that the company is running a charity and putting in a premium material. You would do well to refrain from making a tall claim on public forum. Thanks
Also, your description of Bolan as sluggish isn’t reflecting Bolan’s character. I have owned it for eleven years. I have carted a Waves triplet inside it, and even then, it’s engine never felt strained. Also, before it’s assembling was put to an end, this structure allowed Bolan to be a prime choice for trusts, schools, small medium enterprises. So, in future please don’t make something out of nothing.

    Hey Bud!
In your comment you said: “the engine is located underneath seat and is bound to make noise”. So that means you have not personally experienced driving the Changan vehicles and are simply guessing.
You say you still own the Suzuki Ravi, aren’t you projecting what you experience from driving that “vehicle” onto the Changan vehicles? I’m sure that in your “infinite wisdom” you must think what you experience in the ravi MUST be true for Changan as well. Am I right?

Oh, to remember the good old days! I believe we had a very similar discussion there about how the three wheeler loaders wiped the floor with the Ravi and played a big part in wiping out its market by giving better options, better pricing and maintenance and much better load carrying capacity. You were just as hard headed about defending your zeros back then as you are now. At least you are consistent about being stuck in the past, just like your idle idols.

You really do have a colorful vehicle ownership history I’ll give you that. You have owned or still own a Ravi (Keeps changing with each story narrative), you have owned a JDM alto which for some reason rusted away to nothing because JDM rust proofing is non existent according to you 🤦‍♂️: even though JDMs come from Japan, an island nation, surrounded by the ocean. 🤷‍♂️ Rust proofing is the order of the day there.
And finally the best of all, your technical marvel/magic corolla that would change its fuel consumption based on whether you were waring your seat belt or not. The way you put it, when you wore your seatbelt the fuel consumption would decrease. when you did not wear your seatbelt it would go up. WOW!!!
Was your corolla related to Herbie by any chance? 🤔
