Crackdown on Traffic Fine Defaulters: Over 2,500 Vehicles Blacklisted in Lahore

149

LAHORE – The Lahore Traffic Police have launched a major operation against motorists defaulting on e-challan payments, blacklisting 2,546 vehicles and ordering their immediate confiscation. The initiative, carried out in partnership with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), aims to tighten enforcement on persistent traffic fine defaulters.

Action Plan in Motion

Officials have confirmed that an action plan has been finalized to trace and seize vehicles with a large number of unpaid challans.

  • Vehicles with 50 or more unpaid e-challans are the first to be blacklisted.
  • The operation will continue citywide with support from Safe City cameras.

Tracking Through Technology

Chief Traffic Officer Dr. Athar Waheed stated that all blacklisted vehicles will be traced via PSCA’s integrated camera network. These vehicles will be impounded until all dues are cleared.
He added that officers on duty have been instructed to check each vehicle’s e-challan record, ensuring no violator escapes accountability.

“E-challans are issued automatically through Safe City cameras without discrimination, and payment is mandatory for all citizens,” Dr. Waheed said.

Digital Enforcement and Public Access

The PSCA has recently introduced an online e-challan review system on its website, available at echallan.psca.gop.pk — allowing citizens to:

  • File complaints about incorrect challans,
  • Upload supporting images
  • Request instant verification and correction.

Once a complaint is submitted, PSCA’s verification team conducts on-site checks. If an error is confirmed, the e-challan is promptly canceled.

Citizens can now view pending challans and related images after registering on the portal. In addition, e-challans are being dispatched via SMS and WhatsApp, directly linked to mobile numbers registered with the Excise and Taxation Department—a move that enhances transparency and convenience.

A Step Toward Smarter Traffic Management

Dr. Waheed emphasized that modern tools are helping improve traffic discipline and safety. The PSCA’s tech-driven initiatives — from automated challans to digital complaint systems — mark a significant step toward smart, citizen-friendly traffic governance in Punjab.

The ongoing campaign highlights Lahore’s commitment to digital enforcement and road safety, establishing a model for urban traffic management nationwide in Pakistan.
