In an effort to fight street crime more efficiently, Dolphin Force have received bicycles in Lahore. As per media reports, the force will use bicycles along with heavy bikes. “The Dolphin personnel will do patrolling on bikes in narrow streets and markets of the city,” the officials said. In the first step, the police handed over 15 cycles to the officers, and after the success of this pilot project, the project would be officially launched.

However, the decision has faced some criticism from professional cyclists. One tweet by such an individual mentioned that the cycle is Chinese, and its quality is not that good. ” It’s a mountain bike, not for the roads, and the guy who is sitting on it; that’s not his size. This is going to fail big time,” he highlighted.
Dolphin Police in Lahore will use cycles as well for patrolling.

Dolphin Force
The Dolphin Force was launched by then Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif in 2016 to tackle street crime. The force was based on a Turkish model. At the time of its introduction, the force was given 500cc Honda bikes, but it faced serious maintenance issues as there were no proper workshops for these heavy bikes at that time. The reports also suggested that the Punjab government wanted 2500cc bikes for the personnel but changed the plan after suggestions from Turkish experts.
The officials of this force roamed the roads and streets of the metropole to keep a check on the crimes. They usually roam in groups of two to three bikes, with two personnel on one bike. Hopefully, With the bicycles, the force will increase its performance, and the step will be fruitful. However, as mentioned by expert cyclists, the authorities need to check the quality and right sizes of these cycles because, without these, the project would be a failure.
