Fact Check: Has LDA Ended the Ferozepur Road Bike Lane Project?

471

In recent days, several news and media outlets have claimed that the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has discontinued the bike lane project on Ferozepur Road.

These claims, however, appear to be based on speculation rather than verified information. Many of these reports lack official confirmation and fall into the category of “hawai baat” — unverified assumptions.

Official Clarification from Lahore Development Authority

To verify the facts, our team contacted Osama Mehmood, Public Relations Officer and Spokesperson of LDA. He categorically rejected the claims circulating on social media and in certain media houses.

What is the Real Matter?

According to Mehmood:

  • The reports suggesting LDA has discontinued the bike lane are false, misleading, and clickbait.

  • LDA has not shut down the bike lane project.

  • What actually happened is that the Traffic Police Lahore decided to remove concrete dividers on one section of Ferozepur Road, due to accidents during peak traffic hours.

  • The bike lane remains intact and is still functional and enforceable by law.

He emphasized that claims of discontinuation are baseless and have no connection to LDA’s actual policies.

Ground Report from Ferozepur Road

To further investigate, our team conducted an on-ground survey of the entire Ferozepur Road bike lane, which runs from Chungi to Qaddafi Flyover.

  • Chungi to Kalma Flyover: The concrete dividers have been removed for traffic safety.

  • Kalma Flyover to Qaddafi Flyover: Dividers remain in place and the bike lane is operational.

Our team documented the route and marked the changes for better understanding. See the map below:

  • Red Line shows the section where dividers have been removed.
  • Blue Line shows the section where dividers are still present.

Conclusion

Contrary to circulating reports, the Ferozepur Road bike lane project has not been discontinued by the LDA. The only modification was the removal of dividers on a limited stretch by the Traffic Police, primarily for safety reasons. The lane remains functional and is part of the city’s traffic management plan.

Media outlets publishing unverified news underscore the importance of verifying official statements, ultimately misguiding the public with misinformation.
