Today we’re back with a walkaround review of the 2018 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT convertible. In this review, we will cover some of the main features of this American Pony car and also tell a bit about its history and the reason for its cult fan following around the globe.
This particular car is the 6th generation Mustang, first launched in 2015 at its 50th anniversary. It has a 5.0 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, which produces 460hp and around 570Nm of torque mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission, giving power to the rear wheels.
History
The first Mustang was launched in 1964, and on the first day of launch, Ford sold 22,000 units. Not just that, Ford estimated around 100,000 units being sold in the first production year of the Mustang, but to their surprise, around 400,000 Mustangs were sold in the first year.
When it was launched, it defied all characteristics of cars present, be it design, dimensions, power, etc. The 1965 Mustang GT350R is one of the most desirable classics in the modern era, with one of them being sold for 3.5 million dollars in an auction. The Mustang is one of the most successful sports cars produced in terms of sales, and it has been in production continuously for almost 58 years.
Engine Options
This particular car is the 5.0 GT and comes with a naturally aspirated 5000cc V8 engine producing 460hp and 570Nm of torque. The entry-level Mustang is offered with a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder EcoBoost engine. Initially, it also came in a 3.7 V6 engine, but it was soon discontinued due to a lack of consumer acceptance.
The most powerful engine comes in the 2022 Mustang GT500, also known as the predator; it is a 5.2 liter supercharged V8 that pumps out 760 hp and 625 pound-feet of torque. All these engines are mated with a 10-speed automatic, and a 6-speed manual is also available in some variants.
Exterior
So looking at the exterior of the car, the front look screams aggression; this is the facelifted model with the headlights being very sleek, blacked out grill with the infamous horse logo. The front look is flared up with the huge hood scoops at the bonnet, with the golden decals giving a very sporty contrast.
Sides feature massive 20-inch golden Shelby rims along with a Cervini body kit around the car. The rear features beautiful 3-strip LED lights, a lip spoiler, GT logo, and quad exhaust tips at the rear. This is a soft top convertible, so with the roof down, the car looks amazing.
Interior
The interior is well laid out, the design is not very modern, but the quality of materials is top-notch. The facelift got some changes in the interior, which include a fully digital instrument which is the main highlight of this cabin. Contradicting its sporty and extensively aggressive exterior, the seats are very comfortable and welcoming, giving a hint of luxury.
The car is equipped with a Sutton Sports steering wheel which is very aggressive looking. The roof is convertible, so it folds down completely with a click of a button. Space is good in the front but very cramped at the rear, with little to no leg space for an average person.
Salient Features
The Mustang is well equipped with features that include electric seats, which are heated and ventilated, a digital instrument cluster that shows a vast variety of information, 4 driving modes which include normal, sports plus, my mode, and race track mode for maximum output. The exhaust also has 4 modes which you can switch to adjust the exhaust sound; these are quiet, normal, sports, and race track.
The cabin has leather treatment all around, a rather small infotainment system, but a very useful one, dual-zone climate control, etc. safety features include parking sensors, rearview camera, several airbags, traction control, cruise control, automatic high beams, Isofix child seat anchors, collision warning and much more.
Price
The Mustang has many variants, and the price depends on the model year, condition, variant, etc. Moreover, the high customs duty for imported cars in Pakistan make these high-end models way more expensive than they are internationally. This particular model will cost around PKR 40 million plus in the current market, but this can vary with the duty structure.
