Govt Pledges Support to Strengthen Pakistan’s Auto Industry
Islamabad — At the Auto Parts Summit 2025, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Haroon Akhtar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to boosting Pakistan’s automotive industry. He cited the new tariff policy, fresh industrial measures, and plans to revive sick industries like steel mills, all aimed at fortifying local auto manufacturing.
“We want you to be competitive, and we will help you,” Akhtar assured attendees. He further vowed that quality standards applied to local manufacturing will now be strictly enforced on imported parts and vehicles as well.
The announcement builds on the government’s recent pledge to revive Pakistan’s struggling auto sector by extending support packages designed to reduce costs and restore investor confidence.
Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan had earlier highlighted targeted incentives to address rising production costs and declining demand, including tax relaxations on locally manufactured vehicles, facilitation for parts manufacturers, and easier financing options for buyers.
If implemented effectively, the support plan coupled with stricter quality enforcement could help Pakistan’s auto industry overcome current challenges while building a stronger foundation for long-term growth and localization of vehicle production.
