Hyundai Santa Fe VS Changan Oshan X7 – A Comparison

This weekend marked the launch of the Hyundai Santa Fe in Pakistan. The car was proudly dubbed by Hyundai Nishat as Pakistan’s first 7-seater Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) SUV. The company unveiled two versions of the vehicle—Smart and Signature—with the latter being the top of the lineup. Although Santa Fe is a hybrid vehicle, it competes with Changan Oshan X7 Comfort due to several similar features. Let’s see which one is better!

Dimensions 

Hyundai Santa Fe has slightly larger dimensions of 4785x1900x1710mm as compared to Oshan X7 Comfort’s 4730x1870x1720mm. Santa Fe has a ground clearance of 176mm, while X7 has 200mm. Oshan X7 Comfort beats Santa Fe in boot clearance with 1407 liters as compared to Santa Fe’s 782 liters. 

Engine and Transmission

Hyundai Santa Fe is a hybrid SUV with 227 HP @ 5500 RPM power and 350 Nm @ 4400 RPM of torque. Changan Oshan X7 Comfort, on the other hand, is a petrol car with 185 HP @ 5000 RPM of power and 300 Nm @ 4400 RPM of torque. 

Hyundai Santa Fe comes with a 6-speed Automatic transmission, while Oshan X7 offers a 7-speed Automatic one.

Exterior

When it comes to the key, the Santa Fe boasts a Smart Key, while the Oshan X7 goes a step further with Smart Keyless Entry.

The power boot feature adds a touch of convenience to loading and unloading. Adjusting your steering wheel for optimal comfort is a breeze in both vehicles, complemented by steering switches for added control. Last but not least, the introductory price of the Hyundai Santa Fe Signature is Rs. 14,699,000 compared to the current rate of the Changan Oshan X7 Comfort of Rs. 8,549,000.

    What’s the fun to spend 4 million extra, that too in advance, at the face of Hybrid/ fuel cost savings as compared to Petrol engines ? To me it’s insane indeed. If one spends 25 K per month then 3 lacs per year and 30 lacs in 10 years. That means one has paid fuel price of 10 years in advance. Is it justified ? EV and Hybrid have no future in near time frame but may be after 10 years if filling stations are available throughout country.

    Hyundai has the credit to introduce most failures in vehicle category. First is Santa Fe old version.second is IONIQ. Third is Porter. Fourth is STARIA. The journey is still ON, anove Santa Fe is yet another example.

    Dear author Oshan has a wet DCT transmission, which as far as I know is very different from a conventional automatic transmission, therefore, you should mention that feature as ie written in brochure.
