Is Changan Planning a Range-Extended E-Pickup for Pakistan?
Leaked images of the pickup truck have surfaced online, which appear to be Deepal’s K50 Hunter, sparking speculation that Master Changan Motors may soon introduce a new REEV hybrid pickup truck to the Pakistani market.
The picture shows the Deepal K50 parked near what appears to be a port area, with shipping containers and heavy transport trucks visible in the background, suggesting the vehicle might have recently arrived for testing or early evaluation.
Regarding the vehicle itself, the Deepal K50 Hunter comes with a Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) drivetrain. It operates somewhat like a plug-in hybrid (PHEV); however, a REEV’s wheels are powered exclusively by electric motors. The internal combustion engine acts only as a generator to recharge the batteries, not to drive the wheels directly.
So far, we don’t know what the Pakistani specs will be, but international specs indicate that the K50 comes with a 2,000cc internal combustion engine and a 31.8 kWh battery, producing 268 HP and 472 Nm of torque.
If launched, the K50 is expected to compete directly with the BYD Shark 6, another hybrid pickup of Chinese origin. Both vehicles aim to capture a share of Pakistan’s growing hybrid and electric vehicle market, particularly as demand for fuel-efficient utility vehicles continues to increase.
As of now, pricing remains undisclosed. Deepal has not made any official announcements, but it is expected to be priced competitively with other petrol and diesel-powered trucks.
While details remain limited, the K50’s appearance signals that Pakistan’s pickup market is about to get more competitive and perhaps more electrified.
