0 1,041

Today we’re back with an owner’s review of the Honda BRV. BRV debuted in 2017 as the first locally assembled multi-purpose vehicle by Honda Atlas. It comes in 2 variants, i-VTEC, and i-VTEC S, and is equipped with a 1.5 liter SOHC engine producing around 118 hp and 145 nm of torque. This engine is paired with a CVT transmission, while the manual is also offered. In this review, the owner shares his experience with this MPV and briefs us about its specs and features.

Purchase Decision

The owner recently came to Pakistan from abroad and was looking for a practical SUV. According to the owner, at that time in 2019, there were no options in the 7-seater market, which fell in his budget other than the BRV. He then did his research on this car and decided to buy the i-VTEC S variant as he didn’t want to drive a manual. He purchased the car for PKR 2.6 million.

Drive

According to many opinions, the 1.5 Liter engine paired with a CVT transmission in the BRV makes it sluggish in acceleration. However, as per the owner, he has not felt this way and thinks that the power is optimal. He has taken the car up north several times, and it never disappoints in up-hill or down-hill travel. Although the cabin is not insulated correctly and road noise is extensive on rough roads. “Otherwise, I’m fully satisfied with this car’s mechanics, ” he added.

Fuel Average

As per the owner, fuel consumption is a major positive of this car. He easily gets 12 to 12.5 km/l within the city and more than 15 km/l on the highway if maintained at constant speeds. He later on, added that the consumption might drop in stop-and-go traffic, where it comes down to 10 km/l, but otherwise, it is very economical.

Missing Features

The BRV has decent features like leather seats, a single airbag in the pre-facelift car, an infotainment screen, digital climate control, rear AC, etc. Although the owner feels that some aspects should be improved on, like the infotainment system, he feels it is very dated and unresponsive. Secondly, the gear selection is not illuminated, which is very impractical when shifting gears at night. He also feels that the interior is very basic compared to modern cars and should be improved.

Maintenance

The owner has driven this car a total of 163,000 kilometers, and he thinks reliability is not an issue. As for the periodic maintenance, he gets its oil changed every 10,000 kilometers, and its cost lands around 13 to 14,000 rupees, including filters.
