In connection with the Pakistan Day Parade and its ongoing preparations, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has formulated a special traffic plan for the convenience of commuters.
The entire layout of the traffic plan was issued by the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Farrukh Rasheed. The plan restricts the entry of heavy traffic in the premises of the Federal Capital on 17, 19, 21 and 23rd March 2019 from 12 at night till 2 pm (the following day) owing to the preparations being carried out. ITP has also issued a proper notification of the traffic diversion plan during the above-mentioned days. In order to avoid any sort of inconvenience to the general public, nearly 600 ITP personnel will be performing duties on 23rd March. It also includes high-ranked officers including an SP, 2 DSPs and 22 Inspectors. The traffic plan is as follows:
- No heavy traffic will be allowed to enter the premises of Islamabad between 12 am to 2 pm on 17, 19, 21 and 23rd
- All light transport vehicles coming from Lahore are redirected to use the route of Rawat T-cross to approach GT road Peshawar and Motorway while crossing through Saddar road Rawalpindi.
- The traffic coming from Rawalpindi Airport will be diverted to Khanna Bridge. However, to reach the G sector of Islamabad and Kashmir Highway, the commuters may use Lethrar Road and while turning left from Captain Naeem Tufail Shaheed Chowk (Taramri Chowk) may follow Park road, Rawal Dam Chowk and Murree road. For those travelling towards Murree, may take a turn from Kashmir Chowk and follow their route through Bhara Kahu.
- The traffic moving towards Islamabad Airport and Lahore will use 9th Avenue to reach Murree road where they can move towards Rawal road using Koral Flyover.
- The vehicles coming from Motorway will use Kashmir Highway to reach Aabpara, Bhara Kahu and Murree.
- Faizabad will remain closed for all types of light and heavy traffic. However, small vehicles will not be allowed to enter Faizabad, Expressway and Khanna Bridge on 17, 19, 21 and 23rd March during 5 am to 2 pm in the afternoon except those having permission cards along with them.
- Similarly, during the above-mentioned dates and timings, Faisal Avenue and Murree road will be completely closed for small vehicles from Zero Point to Faizabad and Rawal Dam Chowk to Faizabad respectively.
On the other hand, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has issued invitations cards in different colours to the guests coming to attend the Parade. The guests are bound to follow the route, parking lot and sitting area in accordance with the colour of their invitation card. For instance, a green invitation card is linked with the green marking route and green coloured parking area for the convenience of guests to reach their destination. Moreover, there are several signboards placed by the ITP to guide the guests in heading towards their parking areas. There are a total of 3 different routes for the guests to enter the Parade parking area. Invitation cards are divided into several colours such as yellow, green, red, black, blue and maroon.
To keep an uninterrupted service of public transport between the twin cities, it will be diverted from Missile Chowk to Khanna Bridge, Lethrar road, Park road and Rawal Dam Chowk. The transport going towards Murree will be diverted on the right side on Kashmir Highway while those moving to Islamabad will be diverted on the left side from Kashmir Chowk.
Furthermore, ITP has requested all the citizens to cooperate with the staff of military and traffic police in this regard. A few instructions for those coming to witness the Parade have also been released which includes the following:
- All the guests are requested to bring their CNICs along with them.
- No cameras, mobile phones or edibles will be allowed inside.
- In case anyone finds any suspect or suspicious material around them, they must immediately inform at the helpline number 1135 or ITP helpline 1915.
- All the guests are further requested to display the stickers issued by the administration at the windscreens of their vehicles to avoid inconvenience.
Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has a dedicated FM Radio 92.4 which will assist and update the commuters regarding the traffic situation in the twin cities during the next two days.
