On December 16th, Javed Afridi shared the latest pictures of MG7 on his Twitter, but netizens were neither surprised nor happy.
Javed Afridi, MG’s poster boy, keeps playing with consumers’ emotions while sharing pictures of the different MG vehicles and making revelations about their arrival in the country. Sometimes it is a teaser for a potential car launch in Pakistan, and sometimes he just asks his followers to guess the price of the car.
In the beginning, his marketing gimmicks to entice the consumers worked tremendously as every tweet would excite the people. His tweets were retweeted, and car enthusiasts were over the moon to see new cars entering the market. But, gradually, it became apparent that it was only marketing, and no cars were launched. For example, MG 3 and MG 5, about which Mr. Afridi had previously shared tweets hinting at possible launches, have still not been launched in Pakistan.
Twitter’s Reaction
Yesterday, when Mr. Afridi shared pictures of the new MG 7, which has been recently launched in China, the netizens were unimpressed.
Some Twitteratis joked that these MG cars are only being launched on Twitter and will never come to Pakistan, while others called him a fraud outright.
Javed Afridi has not only been teasing the launches of these cars but is also famous for claiming that the MG 3 will be sold for under Rs. 2 million. This claim made his tweets viral, but seeing the delay in the launch and the rise in inflation, it seems that this promise might not be fulfilled.
