Karachi to Launch Faceless E-Challan System
Karachi will introduce a faceless e-challan system from October 1, 2025. Traffic violations will be detected through CCTV cameras, and challans backed by photo or video evidence will be sent directly to the violator’s home, just like in Lahore.
How the System Works
According to the Traffic Police spokesperson, violations will be detected by advanced CCTV cameras installed across the city. Once a violation is recorded, a challan backed with photographic or video evidence will be dispatched directly to the citizen’s residence—removing any room for roadside negotiations or discretionary enforcement.
The spokesperson described this as a “revolutionary step” toward creating a safer and more organized Karachi.
A Positive Step — But Long Overdue
While this system is being hailed as a breakthrough for Karachi, it also highlights how late the city is in adopting such technology. Lahore introduced its e-challan camera-based system back in 2018, making Karachi’s rollout a staggering seven years late.
The real test begins now: whether Karachi’s traffic authorities can ensure the system is not just a symbolic rollout but a sustained, corruption-free enforcement mechanism that genuinely transforms the city’s traffic culture.
