The Reason
The surge in illegally modified vehicles has become a major concern for law enforcement. Fake license plates, excessively tinted windows, and blaring pressure horns not only violate traffic laws but also enable criminals to operate undetected. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic highlighted how these modifications hinder police efforts to track suspicious vehicles, prompting the city administration to take strict action.
Key Restrictions
The prohibition covers a wide range of alterations, including:
- Decorative or unauthorized number plates (particularly green plates)
- Pressure horns and sirens that disrupt public peace
- Tinted windows exceeding legal limits
- Rotating or flashing lights not approved by authorities
Authorities have also banned the sale and installation of these vehicle modifications within Karachi. To ensure compliance, police officers—particularly Station House Officers (SHOs)—have been directed to file formal cases against offenders. Citizens are urged to report violations, reinforcing the crackdown through community participation.
