Kia to Launch New Competitor of Hilux

The famous Korean car giant ‘Kia’ is gearing up to get into a battle with Toyota, Isuzu, and Ford in the disputed medium pickup market. In a recent social media post, Kia revealed that it is working on a pick truck name scheduled for launch in 2024. Meaning the company is all set to conquer the segment challenging Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, and Ford Ranger. The project has a codename TK (Truck Kia).

The company’s spokesman for Australia officially confirmed the development, stating, “Kia is currently developing a future pickup truck model that will be highly functional and suitable for this purpose.”

Kia further informed the dealers that it would be a diesel-powered truck competing with the likes of Hilux and Rangers in terms of payload (1,000 kg) and towing (3,500 kg). The truck will be available in single and double-cab variants. Depending on the customer’s needs, 4×4 or rear-wheel drive will also be the options. Concerning design, Kia keeps the detail secret.

Koran Brand Kia may equip the new truck with Kia and Hyundai’s 4-cylinder and V6 turbo diesel engines. Moreover, these can also be options may observe in the upcoming vehicle:

  • A 2.2-liter 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine carrying the capacity to produce 198 hp and 440 Nm torque
  • A 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 engine that can make 246 hp and 560 Nm of torque

It is pertinent to mention that Kia has a plan to extend the project to other markets like Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. But the company is inclined to capitalize on the demand in Australia first, as the pickup segment in the country is highly competitive.

    The front look seem to be heavily based on Borrego design, than a telluride.
    No wonder why they priorizing Australia this year Toyota Tundra and Ford F-150 will be launch in Australia.
