PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Transport Department has launched a province-wide crackdown on vehicles emitting excessive smoke, targeting worsening air quality ahead of winter.

As part of the ongoing operation, authorities have inspected over 7,400 vehicles, issuing fines to 3,301 drivers for violating emission standards. Transport officials have directed offenders to obtain a Vehicle Emission Testing Station (VETS) fitness certificate within seven days or face further penalties.

Smog Concerns Ahead of Winter

This action follows directives from the KP Transport Secretary and Director General, amid growing concerns over deteriorating air quality during the winter smog season. Officials warned that non-compliant vehicles could be barred from roads if they fail to meet emissions standards.

The department is also urging transport owners to maintain their vehicles properly to prevent environmental and health hazards linked to toxic emissions.

Province-Wide Enforcement Underway

The crackdown is being carried out across all KP districts. The Transport Department has said the campaign will continue over the coming weeks, with special teams deployed for roadside checks.

With winter smog looming, KP authorities are stepping up enforcement against polluting vehicles. Drivers are advised to check their emission status and ensure compliance to avoid penalties.
