In a determined push for safer highways, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) have intensified their campaign against over-speeding, registering 112 FIRs against drivers caught exceeding 150 km/h on major motorways.

This focused crackdown is being implemented across several major routes, including the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (M-11), Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2), Lahore-Multan Motorway (M-3), Multan-Pindi Bhattian Motorway (M-4), and Sukkur-Multan Motorway (M-5). According to the NH&MP spokesperson, offenders were not only fined but also taken into custody along with their vehicles, before being handed over to local police stations. The charges filed against them include reckless and negligent driving.

FIRs Statistics

Breaking the numbers down further: 43 FIRs were registered on the M-2, 41 on M-5, 12 on M-4, and 8 each on M-3 and M-11. These figures reflect the high frequency of speeding violations, especially on routes with heavy traffic flow.

NH&MP officials highlighted that the speed limit for private vehicles on three-lane motorways is 120 km/h, while public transport is restricted to 110 km/h. Crossing these limits is not just a traffic offense—it endangers lives and compromises the safety of all road users.

Inspector General Riffat Mukhtar Raja has directed all relevant departments to tighten enforcement and maintain zero tolerance toward over-speeding. The department reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe travel and protecting commuters through strict law enforcement.

Earlier, Mr. Raja directed that to completely ban the vehicles exceeding 150 km/h from the motorway, with both a fine and an FIR being registered against violators.

Motorists are urged to take speed limits seriously, not merely to avoid penalties but to safeguard lives—including their own. The NH&MP continues to stress that road safety is a shared responsibility. In the end, no destination is worth the cost of a preventable tragedy. Slowing down could be the difference between life and death.
