Lahore – The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has activated its vehicle emission testing system, with strict enforcement to begin after the August 31 deadline. Director General of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab, Imran Hamid Sheikh, confirmed that vehicles without a Green Sticker will face stern action.
In the first phase, vehicles manufactured between 2010 and 2015 are being issued warning slips. According to EPA spokesperson Sajid Bashir, these slips are being delivered via post along with e-challans. He added that after the second warning, violators will face fines and legal proceedings.
“Emission checks on petrol and diesel vehicles are being carried out rigorously in urban areas,” said Bashir. So far, 350,000 vehicles have been issued Green Stickers after passing the emission test.
The EPA has warned that repeated violations may result in heavy fines and even impounding of vehicles. Only those vehicles that successfully pass the emission test covering engine, silencer, and catalytic converter performance will be granted the Green Sticker.
During the smog season, vehicles without the Green Sticker will not be allowed to enter Lahore. “No vehicle will be permitted on Lahore’s roads without the sticker,” the spokesperson emphasized.
Citizens have been urged to have their vehicles tested immediately at nearby booths. The EPA has also announced that a fee for the Green Sticker will soon be fixed.
