Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer has imposed new restrictions on heavy vehicles along Raiwind Road in an effort to reduce accidents and improve the daily traffic flow. The decision is part of a broader safety initiative targeting high-risk city routes.
Restrictions and Diversions
Heavy vehicles are barred from entering Raiwind Road from Thokar Niaz Baig between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Such vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes, including:
- Sundar Road
- Manga Mandi
- Multan Road
The restriction also applies to traffic coming from Kahna Kacha towards Defence Road.
Implementation and Safety Measures
To ensure that the order is followed, divisional SPs and circle officers have been assigned to supervise, while additional police personnel are stationed along Raiwind Road. Forklifts and heavy machinery have also been placed on standby to remove wrongly parked vehicles and maintain discipline.
The CTO explained that these measures are primarily aimed at saving lives and property, with the expectation of a sharp decline in road accidents once the plan is fully implemented. At night, only heavy vehicles with valid fitness certificates will be permitted to enter the city, thereby keeping unsafe transport off the roads.
