After Punjab, traffic police from another province have started taking strict measures to make roads safe for daily commuters and other travelers. In a recent update, with the increasing number of road accidents, Karachi traffic authorities have imposed a new regulation pertaining to helmet law.

According to the media reports, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah has directed that motorcycle riders with no helmets are prohibited from entering three routes, including Metropole to Clifton Bridge, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and PIDC to Saudi Consulate.

Mr. Shah said, “Motorcyclists without helmets will be turned back on three roads. We are initially making these three roads model roads,”.

We have taken this step to curb the injuries and loss of lives in road accidents involving two-wheelers. Also, the authorities will commence an awareness campaign in Ramadan to educate riders regarding the importance and necessity of wearing helmets. However, after Ramadan, stern will be taken to comply motorcycle riders with this law and heavy fines will be imposed against those who wear no helmet.

Helmet-Only zones in Lahore

Last year in Sept, Lahore Traffic Police specified some major roads as Helmet-Only zones, including Jail Road, Mall Road, Ferozepur Road, Canal Roads, and Maulana Shaukat Ali Road. Moreover, routes in Cantt were also designated as no-go areas for riders with no bike helmets.

Chief Traffic Officer Ammara Athar directed strict action against individuals committing helmet violations. For this purpose, the authorities also introduced an AI system that works alongside manual action. As per the reports, the AI system detected hundreds of thousands of violations, explaining the behavior of the citizenry toward traffic laws.

To further digitalize the traffic management and challan system, the Punjab government has launched several initiatives, including e-challans and e-vehicle registrations.
