“One Word for Oshan X7: Futuristic” – First Look Review

Changan Pakistan has dropped the mic with its first crossover SUV, Changan Oshan X7. Pakistan is one of the first two countries to get the latest model of Oshan X7. That means, for the first time, a new car has come to Pakistan at the same time as its international debut. 

One of the many great things about the Oshan X7 is that it’s Pakistan’s first Euro-6 crossover. What else is special about the new car? Let’s find out in the First Look Review.

Variants

Changan’s new car is here to kill two birds with one stone, literally. Launched in two variants, the 7-seater Oshan X7 Comfort and the 5-seater Oshan X7 FutureSense, the new crossover will compete in two different segments. 

By the way, this is also a first for the Pakistani industry. Before Oshan X7, we have never had the same car model in two different seating capacities. 

We are reviewing the fully-loaded 5-seater Changan Oshan X7 FutureSense variant. 

Engine

Both variants have a 1.5-litre turbocharged Blue Core engine that produces 185 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. This engine is more powerful than the other 1.5 turbo engines in the MG HS and Proton X70, and even bigger petrol engines in 2.4L KIA Sorento and 2.7L Toyota Fortuner.

Exterior

Changan Oshan X7 is a good-looking car with modern design and styling. All the exterior elements complement each other perfectly, making the car look futuristic.

Front Profile

The front of Oshan X7 resembles its siblings, Changan UNI-T and UNI-K. You can tell from the first look that this car belongs to the Changan crossover family.

The most noticeable feature at the front is the giant Surge Flo Grille. The grille design is inspired by ocean waves, calm and always in motion. The Continuous Running Matrix LED DRLs complement the bold and aggressive grille. 

The Bi-Beam Projector LED Headlights underneath the DRLs define the car’s futuristic design.

Side Profile

From the side, Changan Oshan X7 looks similar to Toyota Corolla Cross. We see a black plastic cladding with a red accent running through the side, adding to the sporty look. There are 19-inch turbine-style multi-spoke alloy wheels, perfect for Pakistani roads. 

Moving up, we have electrically adjustable, retractable, and heated side-view mirrors with LED turn signals and roof rails.

Rear Profile

Oshan X7 is wider than Toyota Fortuner, and the rear shows off that bulkiness and wide stance. The LED Infinity Taillights go all the way from right to left with a single light bar. Then, we have the black diffuser bumper with rear parking sensors, reflectors, decorative exhaust pipes, a high-mounted brake lamp, rear wiper, and a shark fin antenna. 

Trunk

Oshan X7 FutureSense has a Powered Tailgate that automatically comes down when you press the button in the boot lid. The spare wheel is fitted under the chassis, so there’s plenty of boot space in the 5-seater FutureSense variant.

Interior

If we have to describe the interior of Changan Oshan X7, it will be ‘futuristic.’ That also explains why the company has named the 5-seater variant FutureSense. Because it really has the feel of a futuristic car.

The cabin is a combination of piano black, dark grey plastic, ivory white FAUX leather with a touch of silver here and there. All these colours add to the openness and spaciousness of the car cabin.

Entry

Both Oshan X7 variants have Smart Proximity Entry that senses the remote key in your hand or pocket and automatically unlocks the car doors, unfolds the mirrors, and turns the headlights on. There’s also a Smart Exit feature that works on the same lines. When you leave the car with the remote key, the car doors are automatically locked, and the windows, side-view mirrors, and sunroof are closed.

Steering Wheel

Oshan X7 FutureSense has a D-shaped sporty steering wheel with media control, adaptive cruise control, and 360° camera buttons with light. 

On the right side of the steering wheel, there are auto start/stop button, headlight and side-view mirror adjustment buttons, and driver’s seat heat and ventilation buttons.

Meter Cluster

A 7-inch digital LCD meter cluster shows all the necessary information such as digital speed, fuel consumption, temperature, car distance monitoring, tire health information, and more.

Infotainment Screen

Oshan X7 FutureSense has a 10.25-inch HMI (Human Machine Interface) with a host of features. You can change multiple car settings, mirror your phone screen, check car diagnostics, record videos with DVR (Digital Video Recorder), stream music, attend calls, and do so much more.

Climate Control

There’s a single-zone automatic climate control touch panel, so you can change the temperature with a few touches. The front AC grille runs along the dashboard, and the rear AC vents are in the centre console.

Seats

The ivory white FAUX perforated leather seats have soft cushioning. The central armrest and front door armrest make the driver’s seat very comfortable and welcoming. The driver and front passenger seats are 6-way powered, heated, and ventilated.

Safety

Oshan X7 FutureSense is packed with safety features. It has four airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, 360° Camera, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ABS with EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Forward Collision Warning, Auto Emergency Braking, Traction Control (TC), Electronic Stability Program), Hill Hold and Descent Control, Digital Video Recorder (DVR), Front and Rear Parking Sensors, and On-board Car Diagnostic System.

Price

The Changan Oshan X7 FutureSense costs Rs. 5,950,000, which is a market competitive price. 

Overall, Changan Oshan X7 is an excellent addition to the crossover segment. Aggressive looks, luxurious interior, powerpack features, Oshan X7 has what it takes to win the customers over. But the long-term success of this new car depends on the after-sales services and spare parts availability.
