Pakistan’s First Electric Bus Launched in Sindh

After electric cars, now, public transport is embarked on to get electric in the country. Sindh’s government took the step and launched Pakistan’s first electric bus in the province.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon made an announcement regarding the launch of an e-bus in Sindh. In his tweet, he informed that the public will avail of this service from today. 

“People of karachi will avail Pakistan’s first electric bus service from today. This service will start from Tank chouk malir cantt to clock tower roundabout, sea view defence using khayaban e ittehad. Airport passengers can also avail of this bus service”

Moreover, Sindh Mass Transit Authority stated that these e-buses are charged through solar energy – environmentally friended buses. With a comfortable ride, commuters will get another relief – low fares, the authority added.

PPP Information Minster Sharjeel Memon tweeted in this regard:

“Alhamdulillah by the the Grace of Almighty Allah, Transport department Government of Sindh is going to start the first route of Pakistan’s first electric bus service for the people of Karachi. PPP’s Sindh government is always focused on development, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, the provincial government announced the decision to launch pink-colored taxis for women and an electric taxi service as well، for the metropolis.

The Peoples Electric Bus Service

The test drives of the Peoples Electric Bus Service (PEBS) had started back in November 2022. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon had tweeted regarding the news stating:

“Announcement: Transport department government of Sindh is going to start New Bus service in Karachi.”

The tweet further read:

“These are Pakistan’s first electrical vehicles which are completely environment friendly. From tomorrow we are going to start the test drive in the city.”

Later on, Senator Saeed Ghani also joined in by sharing pictures of the test drive day.

Electric vehicles have been taking over the world, and seeing progress regarding EVs for public transport is surely a step towards a greener Pakistan.
