Lahore has a brand-new road, and it’s not just any road—it’s being called Pakistan’s most advanced one in Pakistan. This first ‘electricity-poroducing’ road, named Route 47, is opening soon in the center of the city. It’s 4.5 kilometers long and connects some of Lahore’s busiest areas, like Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Gulberg, Walton Road, and the Lahore Ring Road. If you’ve ever been stuck in traffic around these places, you’ll know how big of a deal this is.
A High-Tech, Smart Road
The project was built by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (CBD Punjab) and cost around Rs. 9 billion (about USD 32 million). But Route 47 isn’t just about cars and buses. It’s been designed to be smart, modern, and helpful for everyone. Here’s what makes it special:
- A long flyover to help traffic move faster.
- Separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists so people can walk or ride bikes safely.
- No more flooded roads during rain, thanks to a special drainage system.
One of the most unique things about Route 47 is its sidewalks. They are being fitted with solar panels that will not only give shade to people walking but also create electricity—up to one megawatt. That’s enough to power a small neighbourhood!
This road runs through the old Walton Airport area, which is now being turned into a new business hub with tall buildings, offices, shops, and more. It’s called Lahore’s Central Business District—a place where the city plans to grow upward instead of outward.
Most of the construction in the area is nearly done. There are now new sewage lines, a rainwater drainage system, and two parking plazas. They’re also building an artificial lake that will collect rainwater.
The goal? To turn this area into a modern place for business, technology, and innovation. Route 47 is just the beginning. It shows that Lahore is moving toward a smarter, greener, and more organized future.
