Electric vehicles are slowly making their way in Pakistan, but some models stand out for their rarity and presence on the roads. Today, we bring you an exclusive review of Pakistan’s only Hummer EV SUV (Edition One), owned by Mr. Nauman.

Let’s dive into the details of this beast and see what makes it so unique.

Make, Model, and Variant

The car in focus is a 2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV – Edition One, the highest trim level, which delivers greater horsepower, improved components, and luxurious features compared to other variants.

Why the SUV and Not the Pickup?

Nauman shared that he never liked pickups. For him, trucks feel incomplete, whereas SUVs give a more aggressive and composed look. He also prefers cruising at moderate speeds (60–70 km/h) rather than extreme off-roading, which makes the SUV a perfect fit.

Previous Cars

Before buying the Hummer EV SUV, Nauman owned:

  • Toyota Fortuner
  • BMW i8 (plug-in hybrid)

Both cars reflect his taste for vehicles with presence and exclusivity.

Why the Hummer EV?

According to Nauman, he doesn’t like “ordinary” cars that blend into traffic. He wanted a head-turner – a car that demands attention. A viral video of the Hummer EV beating a Lamborghini in a drag race further sealed his decision.

With its massive size, futuristic looks, and insane performance, the Hummer EV stood out as the perfect choice.

Performance – 0 to 100 km/h

The Hummer EV SUV can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, which is super impressive for a vehicle of this size. Nauman tried it himself right after getting the car and confirmed the insane acceleration.

Unique Features

  • Crab Walk Mode – The rear wheels turn in tandem with the front wheels, enabling the SUV to move diagonally. This feature always grabs attention whenever he tries it in public.
  • 360° Camera & Blind Spot Monitors – Despite its size, the Hummer EV is surprisingly easy to drive thanks to advanced cameras and sensors.
  • Premium Interior – Bose sound system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated seats, and every modern feature you can think of.
  • T-Top Roof – Removable panels for an open-air feel, although Nauman feels it should’ve been automatic.

Battery & Range

  • Battery Capacity: ~220 kWh usable (268 kWh gross)
  • Claimed Range: Around 330 miles (530 km) on a full charge
  • Real-World Charging:
    • Using a 7 kW home charger, it took almost 35–38 hours for a full charge.
    • DC charging is possible, but the infrastructure in Pakistan is still very limited.

Challenges of Owning an EV in Pakistan

Nauman admitted that EV infrastructure is a major challenge. From plug incompatibility (Type 1 vs Type 2) to lengthy charging times, owning such a massive EV is not easy in Pakistan. He had to arrange converters and even charge at a friend’s place until his home charger was installed.

Price in Pakistan

  • Import Cost: Around 65–70 million PKR
  • Registration: Varies by region
    • Sindh: Just a few thousand rupees
    • Punjab: 25–30 lakh PKR
    • Islamabad: 50–60 lakh PKR

Despite government claims of EV incentives, Nauman didn’t get much relief due to the Hummer’s large size.

Driving Comfort

  • The rear seats are spacious enough to adjust four adults comfortably.
  • Despite being left-hand drive, Nauman got used to it quickly.
  • Thanks to safety features and cameras, maneuvering on Pakistani roads is manageable.

Comparison With Tesla Cybertruck

Nauman considered the Tesla Cybertruck as an alternative, but delays in its delivery and his love for Hummer’s bold design led him to choose the GMC Hummer EV SUV instead. He believes the Hummer looks better and has more presence on the road.

Final Remarks

The Hummer EV SUV Edition One is truly a one-of-a-kind vehicle in Pakistan. It offers insane performance, futuristic features, and unmatched road presence. However, the lack of EV infrastructure and high cost make it impractical for most buyers.

For Nauman, it’s not just a car – it’s an exclusive lifestyle statement. And in his words:
“A car should be a head-turner. If nobody notices it on the road, you might as well drive a Civic or Alto.”
