One-Way Violators to Face Arrest & Case in Lahore

Following the deaths and accidents due to one-way rule violations, Lahore Traffic Police have decided to lodge a criminal case against the violators, alongside the challan of Rs. 2,000. This is the strictest punishment for traffic rules violations as in a recent campaign, the traffic police have declared the one-way breach as “an attempt to suicide.”

Talking to the media, Chief Traffic (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Assad Malhi, said the new law would be implemented from Friday (December 2, 2022). We will launch an awareness campaign for the next two days, so the commuters can know everything about it. “From Friday, the new punishment will be implemented,” Malhi asserted.

Case Against One-way Violation

He further said that the FIR would be registered under Pakistan Penal Section 279, and the violator would be arrested and put in jail. “Traffic wardens have issued 225,000 challans against the violation of the one-way rule in 2022 so far,” the CTO said, adding, despite that the one-way violation is a common sight.

“Such people not only put their lives in danger but also become a threat to others’ lives on the road,” Malhi mentioned. He appealed to the masses to be part of this campaign to end this problem.

Due to the grave situation, a recent meeting of senior traffic police officials was held to tighten the noose against the violators further.

The City Traffic police have started multiple initiatives to control traffic violations in the city. The fines and challans have been increased almost double-fold, and police continuously monitor the roads to curb the violations. Furthermore, the police have started monitoring traffic through drones to ensure smooth flow on all major routes. The police are quite confident that they will control this problem, especially the one-way violation.
