Petrol Levy Increased, Diesel Levy Reduced as Prices Adjusted
ISLAMABAD: On 16th of November, the government revised the petrol prices as usual, in which diesel (HSD) saw an increase of Rs. 6 and petrol (MS) prices remained unchanged. Adjustments in petroleum levies mainly drove this change, TheNews reported.
The levy on petrol has been increased by Rs. 1.60 per litre, bringing it to Rs. 79.62.
However, to ease the impact of rising high-speed diesel (HSD) prices, the government has reduced the levy on HSD by Rs. 1.60 per litre, bringing it to Rs. 75.41 per litre. This is because HSD’s ex-refinery price went up by Rs. 9.66 per litre, and the cut in the levy helps absorb part of that increase.
After all adjustments, including changes in freight cost and margins, the government eventually raised the retail price of HSD by Rs. 6 per litre for the current fortnight.
On the petrol side, the ex-refinery price actually fell by Rs. 1.63 per litre, but this relief was cancelled out because the government raised the petroleum levy by Rs. 1.60 per litre, bringing it from Rs. 78.02 to Rs. 79.62 for the current fortnight. As a result, the retail price of petrol remains unchanged.
