Petrol Price in Pakistan Reduced by Rs.2/Litre
The Government of Pakistan has officially reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel for the first half of May 2025. According to the latest press release issued by the Finance Division on April 30, prices have been revised at the recommendation of OGRA and other relevant ministries.
The new prices will take effect on May 1, 2025, offering slight relief to the public amid ongoing inflation and high fuel costs.
Revised Fuel Prices – Effective May 1, 2025
Product | Existing Price (16-04-2025) | New Price (01-05-2025) | Change |
---|---|---|---|
High Speed Diesel (HSD) | Rs. 258.64 | Rs. 256.64 | -Rs. 2.00 |
MS (Petrol) | Rs. 254.63 | Rs. 252.63 | -Rs. 2.00 |
What It Means?
Even though the reduction is just Rs. 2 per liter, it still provides much-needed relief for millions of Pakistanis who rely on petrol and diesel for transportation and daily business operations. With the cost of living continuing to rise, any decrease in fuel prices can help reduce pressure on logistics, agriculture, and public transport sectors.
More importantly, this drop hints that the government is actively monitoring global oil trends and trying to pass on the benefits to the consumers where possible.
Broader Economic Context
The adjustment comes at a time when global oil markets are fluctuating due to geopolitical tensions, dollar rate instability, and varying demand forecasts. With Pakistan’s economy facing ongoing inflationary pressure, such cuts, though small, help maintain a balance between consumer relief and government revenue.
It’s also worth noting that petroleum prices in Pakistan are revised fortnightly, meaning another update will likely arrive around May 15, 2025. If global oil prices remain stable or drop further, consumers may see additional relief in the next cycle.
In the last couple of revisions, despite expectations, the government did not reduce petroleum prices in Pakistan. Instead, it increases the petrol levy on both MS petrol and HSD, as part of the agreement with the IMF, to Rs. 78 per liter.
