After a year and 8 months, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has finally inaugurated the long-awaited IJP Road, now known as Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Road. This road holds significant importance as it serves as one of the main thoroughfares, especially for heavy transport vehicles (HTVs), connecting various commercial areas, including the bustling Pir Wadhai bus stop in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The construction of this project required a substantial investment of Rs. 4.9 billion, with an additional Rs. 1.7 billion allocated for the completion of the 7th Avenue Interchange. Furthermore, the forthcoming 11th Avenue project is estimated to cost Rs. 3.9 billion, further demonstrating the commitment to enhancing the road infrastructure in the region.

The redesign of IJP Road aims to address the existing deficiencies and improve the overall infrastructure to provide a better commuting experience for the residents. The Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has emphasized the importance of incorporating essential features such as pedestrian bridges, service lanes, and dedicated bike lanes to ensure the safety and convenience of all road users.

In recognition of the heroic sacrifices made by Kernal Sher Khan in defense of the country, the CDA board has decided to rename the road as Kernal Sher Khan Shaheed Road. This decision serves as a tribute to the national hero and honors his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s interests.

The inauguration of Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Road marks a significant milestone in the development of road infrastructure in the region. The construction of this road, along with the planned enhancements, will not only alleviate traffic congestion but also provide a safer and more accessible route for commuters. The renaming of the road serves as a reminder of the valor and bravery displayed by Kernal Sher Khan, ensuring that his legacy remains etched in the nation’s history.
