Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will today lay the 306-kilometer-long Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) ‘s foundation. According to Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb, after this motorway’s completion, all the country’s major cities will be linked through the network of motorways. “The project is being constructed under a public-private partnership,” the minister said. She added that the premier has advised its completion within 30 months.
The minister also told the media that the prime minister would attend the ceremonies in both Sukkur and Hyderabad. Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif had directed the relevant authorities to start the work on this mega project immediately.
Cost of Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway
He issued the orders while chairing a review meeting on the progress of the National Highway Authority (NHA) construction projects. In September 2021, the public-private Partnership Authority (P3A) board approved this motorway’s bid documents. The bid mentioned that this project would be constructed on a Public-Private Partnership basis at approximately Rs. 191 million.
The 306-kilometer-long stretch is the final segment of the Peshawar-Karachi motorway. This part of the motorway will have six lanes and will be completed on a construct, operation, and transition capabilities for almost 25 years.
Gujranwala To Be Linked With Lahore-Sialkot Motorway
Last week, Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi revealed the government’s plan to link Gujranwala with Lahore-Sialkot Motorway. He stated during his meeting with a Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry delegation. Former federal minister Moonis Elahi and MNA Hussain Elahi were also present during the meeting.
“Linking Gujranwala with the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway will greatly benefit the people of Gujranwala,” the chief minister said, adding that it will be easy for industrialists to take their products to other cities. He also announced that other towns would also be linked with the motorway.
