Pakistan State Oil took a step for electric vehicle owners of Lahore and Islamabad, who often commute between the two cities. State’s oil company (PSO) accomplished its plan to Install an electric charging station at the Bhera service area on the Islamabad-Lahore motorway (M2).

As per details, the charging station will facilitate the commuters on both north and south routes – a sigh of relief for those commuting from Lahore to Islamabad and vice versa. Coupled with other facilities, the charging outlets also carry the feature of fast charging.

In a bid to make the charging process normal for electric vehicle owners, the oil company has a plan in the pipeline to extend the EV charging network.

Earlier, Tesla inaugurated two EV Charging stations …

Last year, Tesla Industries installed two electric charging facilities at Bhera and Pindi Bhattian. Both stations are private projects by Tesla Industries Pakistan. The ‘CHAN EV Station’ at Bhera is named after Nadeem Afzal Chan, Former Spokesperson to the Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, who attended the station’s inauguration ceremony as a chief guest.

Here’s what we know about these EV charging stations.

  • The charging facilities are located at the exit of the Bhera South and Pindi Bhattian Service Stations.
  • There are four high-end ultra-fast EV charging ports at both stations. Three of them are for European EVs and one for Japanese.
  • All chargers are made in Pakistan.
  • Four electric cars can be charged at a time.
  • 0-80% charging time is just 30 minutes.
  • Both stations have executive lounges where the commuters can rest while their electric vehicles get charged.

This is huge for all EV owners because, till now, they could only drive their electric cars within the city. Now, they can travel to Lahore from Islamabad and charge their EVs on the way.

To do that, you’d have to take an exit from Bhera or Pindi Bhattian, pay the toll tax, and head to the EV charging station. Stay there for as long as it takes to charge the car and then get back on the motorway.

Are you happy with the extended network of EV charging stations on highways? Tell us in the comments.

What is the source of electricity? It matters because if it is national grid based, then that is not sustainable as already electricity shortfall is too high and accommodating EVs would sag the ailing national grid infrastructure down even further.
