Vehicles Without EPA Test Banned on Motorways
To tackle the growing problem of smog and pollution, the Punjab Environment Protection Department has announced a practical new measure to control vehicle emissions. The plan involves setting up special booths for emission testing at key points along the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway. This step is aimed at improving air quality and protecting the health of millions living in Lahore and surrounding areas.
According to Imran Hamid Sheikh, the head of the Environment Protection Department, these booths will soon appear at major motorway interchanges around Lahore, including busy spots like Babu Sabu, Thokar, Ravi, and Kala Shah Kaku. Their main job is straightforward: stop vehicles, perform quick emission checks, and issue green stickers to those that pass. Vehicles without these stickers will not be allowed onto the motorway.
Sajid Bashir, a spokesperson for the department, explained that the initiative would become especially important during the smog season, which has become an annual crisis for Lahore. Cars and trucks without green stickers will be blocked from entering the city during this critical period. The goal is clear—to significantly reduce harmful vehicle emissions that worsen smog conditions and threaten public health.
Increase in Testing Booths
To prevent inconvenience for the public, the department has planned carefully. They have increased the number of testing booths to ensure quick processing and minimal waiting times. The process itself will be fast and straightforward, with vehicles tested on the spot, ensuring drivers face minimal disruption.
This decision shows how seriously the government is taking environmental issues, especially air pollution, which affects everyone. By directly controlling the vehicles on motorways, the authorities hope to cut down drastically on pollutants released into the air. It’s a practical move, especially as Lahore braces for yet another smoggy winter.
Residents and commuters have been encouraged to cooperate fully with this new system. By getting their vehicles tested early, they’ll avoid problems later on. This measure is not just about government enforcement; it’s about creating a cleaner, healthier living environment for everyone.
In the next few days, people traveling between Lahore and Islamabad will see these booths in action, marking the start of a critical new chapter in Punjab’s fight against pollution and smog.
