Punjab Launches Road Infrastructure and Transformation Drive
LAHORE – The Punjab government has taken a series of major and transformative decisions to boost infrastructure and technology across the province.
The announcements were made during a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where various departments briefed the government on ongoing and upcoming development projects. These included initiatives in transport, construction, energy conservation, and urban beautification.
Complete Digitalization of Toll Plazas
One of the key decisions was the complete digitalization of toll plazas across Punjab. The government has decided to abolish the manual ticketing system and introduce a “One App, One System” model—similar to the motorway setup—at all 38 toll plazas.
The move aims to ensure transparency, efficiency, and convenience for commuters by reducing delays and modernizing toll collection.
Beautification Projects for Lahore
As part of Lahore’s urban renewal and beautification drive, several key projects have been approved. These include the revamping of the Railway Station, Data Darbar, Misri Shah, Ek Moriya, and Do Moriya bridges.
A fountain and a mini-train for children will be added to the park opposite the railway station. At the same time, new roads and footpaths will be constructed within a 3-kilometer radius to enhance accessibility and aesthetics.
The meeting also reviewed progress on projects led by the Communication & Works Department and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). According to the briefing, all 54 bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged during recent floods have been fully restored.
These large-scale initiatives underscore the Punjab government’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure, enhancing public convenience, and promoting sustainable development.
