Punjab Plans to Purchase Electric Vehicles for Bureaucrats

The Punjab government has taken steps to add electric vehicles (EVs) to its official fleet, a move aimed at modernizing transportation and reducing environmental impact.

On September 18, 2025, the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) inspected electric cars being considered for purchase. The review provided officials with an opportunity to assess performance, features, and practicality before making final decisions.

During the inspection, Proton Saga presented its electric vehicle to provincial authorities. Additional Secretary of Transport, Zahid Manzoor, attended the session and carefully assessed the car’s specifications to determine whether it would meet the daily needs of government officers.

According to a government spokesperson, the procurement process is progressing steadily and is expected to be finalized soon. Officials explained that introducing electric cars will not only cut fuel costs but also help reduce the province’s carbon footprint.

This initiative is part of Punjab’s wider plan to encourage sustainable practices across government operations. By bringing EVs into official use, the administration hopes to set an example for broader adoption of clean transport in the province.

Further details about selected models and manufacturers will be announced in the coming weeks.
