Record-Breaking Sales of Suzuki Alto in Dec’21
The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) has posted the monthly car sales for December 2021. We were surprised to see the overall growth of car sales. But what shocked us was the record-breaking sales of Suzuki Alto.
Pak Suzuki sold 9,195 units of Alto in December, highest-ever since the car’s launch. Alto’s last record was 6,110 sales in July 2021. Here’s how Alto’s sales went throughout the year, from January to December.
Bookings of Alto VXL
An interesting thing to note here is that Suzuki has temporarily suspended the bookings for Alto VXL. The top-of-the-line VXL/AGS variant has been cut out of production because of the semiconductor chip shortage.
That means the highest-ever 9,195 sales were of the Alto VX and VXR variants. The car had record-breaking sales when its most popular VXL variant was not even available for bookings. The power of Alto, ladies and gentlemen!
Suzuki Car Sales in Dec’21
Overall, Pak Suzuki had a great sales month with 15,503 car units sold in December. The company’s month-on-month sales grew by 82%. Suzuki sold 9,195 units of Alto, 1,411 units of Cultus, 2,861 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 1,040 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 2 units of Suzuki Swift.
Suzuki Alto has been the company’s best-seller for as long as we can recall. Alto is the smallest and most affordable car from the Suzuki lineup. The car has 4000+ monthly sales on average.
Typically, people wait for the new year to buy cars with a new model year. That’s why, each year, car sales are the slowest during November and December. But, this time, the mini-budget had everyone on their toes. Buyers knew the car prices would go up once the mini-budget got approved. So, they didn’t wait for the new year and booked cars before the price hike. That’s probably why Pakistan’s number one selling car had record-breaking sales in December.
I didn’t know the alto was an hot sale like this, it does show what people are able to buy.
I think it was a good move from Proton to bring the saga.

Brother, Alto is the most popular car in Pakistan because of its very fuel efficient engine, gives around 22 to 27 kilometers per liter, and capability to remain stable at speed over 110 kilometers. However, part of its popularity is due to lack of kei cars by competitors.
@Khurram
Agree but we are talking about a 4 passenger cars (driver include), with a little cargo space. To make such a performance about consumption you must drive alone i guess.
I think the success reside in his affordability.
@ Waqas
No brother, I am talking about a fully loaded Alto giving this much return on one liter of fuel.
of course these figures are based on maintaining R.P.M. between 2,300 to 2,700.
As for its affordability yes, its parts are cheapest in category and are available on a large scale.
@Khurram
Seriously bro ?
I’am not doubting you but i’am skeptical with the performance. I know Pakistani aren’t fat as European but
It is something i want to experience myself, i had drive the previuous generation of alto, i don’t remember such performance.
@ Waqas
Yes, my sister has it, she recently traveled with her family. the car carried about 200 kilograms in luggage and had three people sitting in it, from Hyderabad to Karachi, she filled about 8 liters of petrol in the tank and by the time she got home, around 1.5 to 2 liters was still left. She used these liters of petrol to travel between Gulshan and Defense amid rush hours three times.
@Khurram
I checked between Hyderabad and Karachi the distance is a little more than 150km or 250 miles.
I guess the tank wasn’t fully empty when she filled 8 liters, if i assume she was doing nearly 4 to 5 liter per 100km consumption, she is near the consumption of a Toyota prius it is not impossible given the size of the car, light weight, small engine and the condition she was driving it on highway with the higher gear, thus such performance is possible.
And overall they travel at 3, some luggage may be put in back seat.
You convinced me.
Of course with such a car they are the pros and cons. Is a good car for low budget family who want something better than a motorcycle.
In this way Proton Saga is able to haul 5 people with 400L of boot capacity, a little bigger engine the price may be higher than the alto but with the 5 years warranty it is a great deal .
@ Waqas
I fully agree with you brother. Alto is a good option for people switching from motorcycle to a car and Proton Saga is also a good deal, if it was not being delivered with delay, the car would have been really successful.
