SC nullifies notification regarding renting luxury cars

The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar, has nullified the notification that allows Sindh Government to rent luxury vehicles. Furthermore, earlier the vehicle being used by the provincial government officers beyond their privilege and entitlement were also confiscated under the Supreme Court’s order.

The Chief Justice lambasted provincial government for its actions and poor governance in the province. As per the provincial advocate general, until now 149 vehicles have been confiscated, and the new rules have been formulated for using those luxury cars, and they are kept in a central pool.  Moreover, he also told the honourable court that luxury cars as per new rules would be rented at around PKR 25, 000 for fieldwork and other issues.

It is not the first time that the court has issued such order, previously, two months back, the Supreme Court of Pakistan passed an order to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) regarding the immediate return of all the vehicles used by the FBR officials.

According to the Court’s order, all such Jeeps including Land Cruisers, Prados, Pajeros, SUVs, etc. except double cabin used exclusively for operational purposes, shall immediately be handed over to FBR/ respective customs warehouses.

Moving onwards, the Supreme Court banned public servants and ministers from using the government-owned bulletproof vehicles during general elections.
