Sindh Extends Deadline for Ajrak Number Plates

0 0

The Sindh government has extended the deadline for adopting the new Ajrak‑design registration number plates to October 31, 2025, postponing the original date of August 14. Initially applicable to both two‑ and four‑wheelers, the extension now specifically covers two‑wheelers, streamlining the implementation across motorbikes and scooters. This notification came few hours after Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla mentioned, on the floor of the Sindh Assembly, that the province might consider extending the deadline due to widespread public inconvenience.

These new Ajrak-style plates, implemented under the province’s Safe City Project, come with security features that standard plates lack. These include embedded threads, 3D holograms, barcodes, and camera-readable backgrounds—effective even at night. The combination of features ensures compatibility with surveillance systems and addresses counterfeiting risks. The government says that only plates issued through authorized Excise Department offices will be recognized as valid—those from street vendors or third parties won’t be accepted.

Why Sindh Government Give the Extension?

The extension stems largely from practical difficulties encountered on the ground. Since the rollout began, there has been a surge in applications, leading to long queues at excise offices—particularly in urban centers like Karachi, where residents have voiced frustration over delays, tight deadlines, and the inconvenience of repeated visits.
