Karachi — The Sindh Workers Welfare Board has initiated a landmark program to distribute 10,000 free electric motorcycles among women industrial workers. Provincial Labour Minister Shahid Thaheem made the announcement on Friday. Registration has already started through the board’s official website.

Eligibility and Quota

The scheme is open to women between the ages of 20 and 45 who are employed in the industrial sector. To ensure inclusivity, a 20% quota has been reserved for minorities, acknowledging their contributions to the province’s workforce.

To maintain fairness, all applications will be processed via a computerized digital ballot, eliminating human involvement in the selection process. Women who are successful in the draw will be granted 60 days to obtain a valid driving license before being handed their motorcycles.

Minister Thaheem’s Statement

Minister Thaheem highlighted that the initiative is aimed at promoting safe, dignified, and eco-friendly transport options for women. He stressed that since women constitute nearly half of Pakistan’s population, empowering them is essential for the country’s development.

Thaheem also emphasized that the inclusion of minorities in the scheme is a recognition of their valuable sacrifices and contributions, ensuring that the program benefits a diverse segment of society.
