After the Green Line Bus Project, the Sindh Government is now launching another transport system in the province. For the intra-city bus project, 250 diesel-electric hybrid buses will arrive in Karachi in the next four months.
A cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, where Sindh Transport Minister, Owais Qadir Shah, spoke on the subject.
What We Know So Far
The Chief Minister has allocated Rs. 8 billion in 2020-21 and Rs. 6.4 billion in 2021-22 for the procurement of 250 diesel hybrid electric buses.
The Sindh Government will invest Rs. 3 billion on the development of infrastructures and operation of buses.
The new intra-city transport will operate in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
The Sindh Government will procure 250 diesel hybrid electric buses by December 2021.
In the first phase of the project, the buses will first operate in Karachi, with the establishment of four bus depots and 300 bus stops in the city.
The project will be Sindh Government’s joint venture with a Turkish public transport company called the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC). A delegation from the company came to visit the bus depot at UP Morr Karachi to know more about the project.
Other public transport projects, such as the Orange Line, Red Line, and Green Line bus services, will go in parallel with the new intra-city bus project. The groundbreaking ceremony of the Red Line Bus Transit Project will be held soon.
The Sindh Government is putting a lot of effort into making public transport better in the province. Let’s see when these new diesel-electric hybrid buses arrive and how soon they start operating in Karachi.
