These are the top 10 Things to keep in mind while driving
When you hit the road, you are going to face a lot of different road challenges, one of them is the drivers. Some of the drivers are careful, others are rash. But what you must do is to keep calm, alert and vigilant while driving, be aware of the surroundings and be always wary of the other road users. “Defensive Driving Procedures” is one of the important and effective ways to remain safe on the roads like our country.
Following are some of the Defensive Driving Procedures, have a read and let us know what you think about them. These are:
- Always drive at a speed in which you are comfortable and can control your vehicle easily. Keep your car slow while you are driving through a bazaar or market, keep it below 10 km/hr. Apart from this, keep the speed of your car slow when you are driving in front of a school especially during the drop off time and pick up time of the children from schools.
- Drive slowly and carefully when it’s windy or raining. Roads become slippery when it is raining hence it would be difficult for cars to apply brakes and car will take a longer time to stop when the brakes are applied. Your vehicle might aquaplane during the rainy season. The stability of the vehicle is affected both in rainy and windy weather. Hence, the best solution, in this case, is to slow down your car a bit to have more control and stability, thus giving you a bit more time to react accordingly.
- You need to keep a safe distance from the vehicle which is in front of you. This is because of the law of traffic regarding the fault of rear i.e when it hits the vehicle in front of the vehicle. Even if the vehicle ahead of you stops without any reason still the fault would be of the rear car. So be careful in keeping the distance.
- When you are about to make a turn use the indicators to avoid any mishap. But you must do this at least 100 meters before making a turn. This step would not only avoid fatal for turning on the indicators just before the turn on the last moment would cause accidents but it’ll also warn the rear drivers to slow down so that both you and the other driver should be safe.
- You should move your vehicle to the extreme right when you are taking a right turn, this should be done when you are on a two or three lane road and the same should be done when taking a left turn i.e to keep your vehicle at the extreme left position. If you don’t do this, then it’d increase the chances to hit the car while changing the lanes at the last moment when you are taking a turn. Twin city drivers can clearly relate to such risks. For if you are coming from the Faisal Chowk and want to use the Rawal Road, you need to plan beforehand and then move to the extreme left lane before reaching the Chandni Chowk. This is not just the case of the twin cities rather all big cities have such roads and roundabouts like these.
- It is recommended to stop and stretch your legs after every one or two hours when you are traveling on a long distance journey. For example, when you are traveling on Motorway for a long journey, it is better to stop midway, take some rest by stretching or drink or eat something to replenish your energy, same is the case if you are feeling sleepy, stop your car and take a break and then resume your journey.
- You should travel with the headlights at a low beam when you are facing oncoming traffic or when you are traveling in a town. For if you keep your headlights full, you might blind the on-coming vehicle’s driver which might lead to an accident or the oncoming vehicle may hit you.
- Driving isn’t a child’s play instead of driving needs your utmost attention, therefore you need to pay full attention when you are on the road. We all have somewhat had a habit of using our phones while driving, this practice is not safe and can lead to a fatal accident hence if you want to use the phone in emergency cases, stop your vehicle at a side and then use the phone.
- You must keep the brakes and tires of your automobile in the best working condition.
- Last but not least, make sure to fasten your seat belt before driving, also make sure that the person in the passenger seats has also fastened his/her seat belt. This’ll keep both the driver and passengers safe.
Aforementioned are the few defensive driving steps which would surely make your ride and driving safety and help you avoid any unnecessary accidents or other expenditures that you might have to use for your vehicle.
