“This Left Hand Drive Mehran Will Blow You Away”
Today we’re back with the owner’s review of a Suzuki Mehran from the Netherlands. This unique left-hand drive Mehran was cleared after 12 years from the port. The owner recently acquired it and was shocked to see how much better it was than its local counterpart.
This particular car is a 1992 model which came into the Europe market as Alto, while the local Suzuki Mehran remained in production till 2019 in Pakistan. It comes with the same 796cc F8B 3-cylinder engine producing around 39hp and 59nm of torque, configured with a 4-speed manual transmission.
Drive
This Mehran has the same engine; however, as per the owner, it is way better in driving pleasure. Firstly this engine has no vibration while driving or idling, and the refinement is superior to the local Mehran. Road grip and handling are also improved; the owner has taken this car up to 120 km/h with no sort of instability.
Another factor that this Dutch Mehran brings points for is the cabin noise; compared to the local car, this has no signs of excessive road noise and is well insulated, indicating better quality engine mounts and a higher overall build quality.
Suspension
One of the major differences in this particular car is the suspension. While the local Mehran gets leaf springs at the rear, this car comes with shocks that drastically improve the drive. According to the owner, it absorbs potholes way better than the local model, and suspension noises are also reduced.
Interior
Most of the cosmetic changes feature in the interior. To start with, it is obviously left-hand drive and gets a different steering wheel as well. The seats are different, which are a combination of fabric and leather and are way more comfortable. It also gets grab handles on the roof liner, which the local car misses out on. Moreover, the material used on parts like the dash, roofline, and trims is different and feels much more sturdy.
Fuel Average
While the local Mehran was not very impressive in fuel consumption, this particular car gets 15 to 16 km/l easily within the city, which is very impressive. As per the owner, the local model got around 11 to 12 km/l at max, which is way better than it.
Price
As per the owner, it was initially a gamble to buy this car, but it has surpassed his expectations. After transportation costs from Karachi, rims, tyres, and small accessories were added by the owner, the total money he spent on this car was Rs. 9.2 lakh.
