Toyota Car Prices Hiked After 25% GST

Recently, the federal government added a 25% General Sales Tax (GST) to expensive goods. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) confirmed this additional tax by issuing a new sales tax notification under SRO 297(1)/2023. Yet this tax application also applies to some vehicles that weren’t 1400cc cars. The essential point to observe was that all domestically produced or assembled SUVs and CUVs, including those with engine displacement lower than 1400cc, were included in this tax category, which is why we were anticipating a fresh price increase.

Toyota has stated that the economic uncertainties and highly volatile situation of PKR against USD have had a negative impact on the cost of manufacturing for IMC. Consequently, IMC is finding it challenging to maintain the current indicative retail selling prices, and as a result, they are required to pass on some of the impacts to the market. Moreover, on the 8th of March 2023, the Government of Pakistan issued a Statutory Regulatory Order (S.R.O. 297(I)/2023), which increased the Sales Tax rate to 25% on all CKD vehicles with engine capacity of 1400cc and above (excluding IMV-I Single Cabin), in accordance with the Sales Tax Act 1990.

  1. Captain says

It is really insane and madness to buy new cars now with pathetic build quality vis its prices. It’s simply do not commensurate and justify the price. Corolla @ Rs 8 Million is not a wise buy at all. Way out to buy used cars n save some money. I also cancelled my civic booking.
