As per a press release by the company, this collaboration is a remarkable achievement for IMC and a significant step towards establishing its global footprint. It is also the first time for any local automotive part to be part of the Toyota Global Supply Chain, opening new horizons and encouraging other such manufacturers to follow suit,” it read.

The first consignment of semi-processed raw material to be shipped to Toyota Egypt will mark the beginning of an era from the export point of view by any OEM in Pakistan, and plans are in place to continue in this direction.

This partnership with Toyota Egypt is the first step to meet requirements set under the Auto Industry Development and Export Policy (AIDEP) 2021-2026. This is a significant milestone that will not only augment IMC’s export capabilities and serve as a testament to IMC’s quality standards but also contribute immensely towards the development of Pakistan’s growing auto industry.

Statement by IMC CEO

At a small ceremony held at the company’s plant at Port Qasim, IMC’s Chief Executive, Ali Asghar Jamali, said that seeing the ‘Make in Pakistan’ dream cross international borders is a big moment for us and the country. “Becoming part of Toyota’s global supply chain is an affirmation of IMC’s commitment to see Pakistan on the world map and strengthening its overall economy,” he added.

Jamali also stated we are looking forward to further enhancing our capabilities with this collaboration, but it does not stop here; we plan to go further and beyond this to place Pakistan’s auto industry as a symbol of reliability and quality globally.”

He further said, “What’s more, this step will bolster connectivity between Africa and Pakistan and boost trade links under the government’s “Look Africa” policy. “

“semi-processed raw material”…. After three decades existing in Pakistan as CKD importers and assemblers. (Which they still are.) What part is it? What is it supposed to be? At the very least I hope they continue and expand on it and NOT just make it into another media hype opportunity.
A couple of years ago, Toyota Pakistan made another bold statement, similar to this one, that one of its parts vendors was exporting a very small front bumper plastic part to Vietnam because, at that time, Vietnam too was assembling the 11th gen corolla there. Well, like any forward moving economy with forwards thinking and advancing companies, they have long replaced that with the 12 gen Corolla and Corolla hybrid (same case with Egypt). Is that export to Vietnam still valid? Anything else being exporter to Vietnam after that? Any expansion on that one single (currently questionable) export to Vietnam?
So, you see why I’m concerned that this time is also just a rinse and repeat of the same type of media hype.

Firstly, what export is valid or invalid is not for you to judge, especially when you do not even know what a Royalty Tax is or what situation results in its imposition. Secondly, you do not even know about the marketing theory in its fullest and here you are writing about economics. Lastly, Egypt’s auto market is not comparable with Pakistani market because neither Pakistani labour is as skilled, nor Pakistanis (99%) are loyal to their country, therefore, bringing a 12th generation Corolla at the moment is neither technically viable nor financially feasible.
P.S. It is not just I.M.C. that has failed to make any difference within this country for three decades, it is the entire public living within this unfortunate country, sardonically, your comment is a living example of leg pulling, and slandering that has become so common nowadays.
