Traffic Police Share Tips to Visit Snow-Covered Murree
Last year, a tragedy hit Murree when 22 people died after being stuck in a snowstorm. The incident caused widespread criticism of authorities and the government. To avoid a similar incident this year, the government, especially Murree Traffic Police, is working vigilantly. In a recent video, the traffic police shared some tips and guidelines for tourists planning to visit the hill station to enjoy this season’s snowfall.
Tips to Visit Snow-Covered Murree
The police have shared the following tips and advice for tourists:
- Get your car checked mechanically because a healthy car is a must.
- Use car snow chains on your tires to improve traction on icy roads, and always carry a tow bar or chain for added safety.
- The car’s battery health must be excellent.
- Use anti-freeze in the car’s radiator.
- Different roads of Murree are one-way, so don’t violate the one-way traffic and park your car in properly designated parking areas.
- Give way to snow clearing and chemical spraying vehicles during the snowfall on priority bases.
- Use the car heater very carefully, and don’t use it while closing all the windows for a long time because it could create Carbon Monoxide in the car cabin and prove to be lethal.
- Follow all traffic rules and instructions of traffic police for safe travel.
Entry of Limited Cars in Murree
Yesterday, the government announced that only 8,000 vehicles would be allowed inside Murree during snowfall. Punjab Relief commissioner Naveed Ahmed Shirazi directed the relevant authorities to remove all hurdles from the roads and hold a grand mock exercise to tackle the snow. “13 relief centers have been established, while extra personnel of 1122 rescue workers and policemen have been posted to tackle any emergency,” the official said.
Furthermore, he banned the transfers of all officials from Murree during the snow season, while he urged the citizens to call 1129 in case of an emergency.
