In a significant step towards curbing air pollution, the Punjab Environment Protection and Climate Change Department has recently relocated its Vehicle Emissions Testing System (ETS) booth from Bedian Road to the Dolmen Mall, Lahore. The move aims to increase accessibility for citizens, encouraging them to have their vehicles regularly tested and to actively participate in efforts for a cleaner environment.

This development comes alongside the government’s ambitious initiative to expand the emissions testing network beyond city limits including the setup of testing booth, including extending services to the motorway network. This expansion will strengthen compliance with environmental standards across Punjab and facilitate better monitoring of vehicle emissions.

Currently, the Punjab government operates a network of twenty dedicated emissions testing booths strategically positioned across Lahore, making it convenient for citizens throughout the city. All these ETS booths operate from Monday to Saturday between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with a break for lunch and prayer from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

Vehicle Emisstion Test Deadline and Fine

Considering the high volume of vehicles in Lahore, the government has extended the deadline for vehicle emission testing until 30th June. Each emission test takes approximately five minutes. After the conclusion of this extended grace period, owners whose vehicles lack a valid green certificate will be subject to fines—PKR 2,000 for the first violation and PKR 5,000 for second violations.

Why Vehicle Emission Testing is Crucial?

The establishment and expansion of emissions testing services have become increasingly critical given Pakistan’s deteriorating air quality index (AQI). Notably, during the October-November period, cities across Pakistan consistently feature among the top ten global cities with the worst air pollution levels. Lahore, specifically, experiences hazardous air quality conditions that pose serious health risks, prompting urgent action from authorities.

Thus, participation in vehicle emissions testing is not merely a civic responsibility but an essential contribution toward safeguarding public health and reducing environmental damage. By proactively getting vehicles tested, citizens can significantly help improve air quality, mitigate pollution levels, and collectively foster a healthier future for Lahore and beyond.
