The government allocated Rs. 1.48 billion in funds for the construction of Islamabad’s 10th Avenue, which is scheduled to conclude by the end of 2023.

Funds were allocated in the last fiscal year, and National Logistics Cells (NLC) won the tender of the Phase-I of the contract. The first phase included the construction of a five kilometer road from IJP road to the Srinagar Highway. The total length of the 10th Avenue is set to be 8.2 kilometers.

The construction work has begun in March 2022 with a target to complete the project within 21 months. In the past fiscal year, Rs. 1.47 billion were spent by the department out of the total Rs. 1.48 billion. According to the estimate, the construction should be completed by the end of the year 2023.

Other Projects

National Logistics Cell (NLC) is not only working on the 10th Avenue project, but it also has some other construction projects in the pipeline. These projects include the repairing of IJP road and Stadium road, as well as the construction of the 9th Avenue flyover.

For the rehabilitation of the IJP road, the government has given NLC a budget of Rs. 4.9 billion. The deadline for these projects is still uncertain though these projects are in the works.

Incomplete Rawal Dam Project

While the construction of the 10th Avenue project seems to be going smoothly, other projects appear to be at a standstill. One example is the Rawal Dam overhead bridge project. The project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif but is still incomplete.

The unfinished construction work is causing great difficulty for daily commuters and the residents of Chak Shehzad.
